Energy dependence of strangeness production

چکیده

We present a summary of strange particle yields measured by the experiment NA49 in central Pb+Pb collisions in the beam energy range 20 158 AGeV. The comparison with thermal hadron model results shows that above 30 AGeV, a strangeness undersaturation parameter γS must be employed to describe the data. This suggests a change in the strangeness production mechanism at this energy. We find that the UrQMD transport model in all cases underpredicts the observed yield ratios. Submitted to: J. Phys. We argue that the shape of the system-size dependence of strangeness production in nucleus-nucleus collisions can be understood in a picture that is based on the formation of clusters of overlapping strings. A string percolation model combined with a statistical description of the hadronization yields a quantitative agreement with the data at √ s N N = 17.3 GeV. The model is also applied to RHI...

Strangeness and charm signatures in A+A collisions

Two signatures of the quark-gluon plasma – strangeness ‘enhancement’ and J/ψ ‘suppression’ – in nucleus–nucleus collisions are critically discussed. A recently developed statistical coalescence model for J/ψ production is presented. The measurements at the RHIC energies are crucial for disentangling the different scenarios of J/ψ formation. 1. Strangeness “enhancement” ? The idea of strangeness...

Pion and Strangeness Puzzles

Dependence of pion and strangeness production on number of participant nucleons and collision energy is shown for central A+A collisions. A possible interpretation of the experimental results assuming transition to QGP is sketched within a simple statistical approach. Strangeness and Pion Production as Signals of QCD Phase Transition

A systematic analysis of data on strangeness and pion production in nucleon–nucleon and central nucleus–nucleus collisions is presented. It is shown that at all collision energies the pion/baryon and strangeness/pion ratios indicate saturation with the size of the colliding nuclei. The energy dependence of the saturation level suggests that the transition to the Quark Gluon Plasma occurs betwee...

System-size dependence of strangeness production in high-energy A+A collisions and percolation of strings

The CERN-NA49 Collaboration has recently published the yields of a series of strangeness-carrying particles (charged kaons,Λ, φ, in addition charged pions for normalization) in central C+C and Si+Si collisions at the top SPS energy ( √ sNN = 17.3 GeV) [1]. Together with earlier data for p+p, S+S and Pb+Pb the systematics of strangeness production as a function of the size of the collision syste...
